Description du livre Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. No Jacket. (Ref.E1+ ) Full calf leather bound. Gilt titles and tooling to spine. Some slight marks and discolouration to boards otherwise very good. Spine hinges starting to crack but not split and generally very good. Cracking starting to show at endpapers hinge also but still firmly bound. Previous owner's label to front paste-down. Darkened top edge and foredge. Some foxing to page edges throughout. Also two tipped in cuttings of other works regarding Italy to backs of a couple of the engraved plates. Un bell'esempio di ? Grand Tour? magnificamente illustrato. Legatura con cerniera e angoli un po' usurati, scollata al dorso, internamente ottimo esemplare. Fine copy with detached binding. Book. The spine tooled in blind and gilt between wide flat bands. Marbled endpapers, edges gilt. The joints beginning to crack and slight loss of surface to the upper board. Description du livre Etat : Very Good. 1st Edition. Full calf leather binding by Colnaghi & Co. London, rebacked with original spine laid over. Spine has five raised bands and richly decorated compartments. Ornate gilt panelled boards, gilt ruled board edges and turn-ins. All page edges gilt, later marbled endpapers. Some light foxing to plates, some browning and offsetting to pages facing plates. A few occasional marks but overall a very clean example. Overall condition is Very Good. Batty and mounted on China paper. 3 leaves, 197, (1) pp. 4to. Contemp. brown morocco, spine gilt, boards with gilt fillets. Edges gilt (C. Lewis). A Beautiful large paper copy of this lavishly illustrated travel account to Italy. With printed dedication from Elizabeth Frances Batty (1791 1875) to her father, the phisician Robert Batty. The descriptions to Batty s views are anonymously written by a friend of the pubisher s" (note on dedication leaf). From the estate of W. Warner Parry M.A.R.N. with his engr. armorial bookplate on first paste-down. Cf. Thieme/Becker III, 50 (John Batty! no mentioning of Elizabeth Frances B.) Joints and spine ends expertly restored.
