A scarce Japanese map of Turkey from the late 19th century. Text is in Japanese. A detailed, refined regional study of parts of Asia and the Middle East from the mid 19th century. This map is from the most well-used world geography textbook of the early Meiji period, compiled by former Edo Government officer, Masao Uchida (1838-1876). He graduated from the Nagasaki Naval School and is considered to be one of the earliest Japanese visitors to America. He was sent to Holland from 1863 to 1866, to gather information to complete this work. He started to compile the Yochi Shiryaku in 1870.
