Glatzer (1903-1990) , who was educated in Germany, was an associate and follower of Franz Rosenzweig. In 1932, he became the chair of Jewish philosophy and ethics at the University of Frankfort. A year later, though, he went to Israel, and taught in Haifa. In 1938, Glatzer moved to the United States, where he continued to teach, and joined the Brandeis University faculty in 1950, later becoming the chairman of the Near Eastern and Judaic studies department. He also worked for Schocken Books and the Leo Baeck Institute.
