With material on cadet life at West Point, and Bayard's pre-war service in the west ("Includes army services in Kansas, Utah and Wyoming, 1857-1860"--Howes B258). Bayard joined the First Pennsylvania Cavalry in the War and became a Brigadier General. He fought in the Valley and ultimately was killed at the Battle of Fredericksburg. This is a neat and clean copy in publisher's brown cloth and is from the personal library of Civil War historian James I. "Bud" Robertson, and has his bookplate on the front free endpaper.
