Description du livre New York: G.P. Putnam & Co., 1856 and 1857., 1857. TWO VOLUMES ONLY of a five volume set. Each hardcover, H 19.25cm x L 13.25cm, uniformly bound in their original bluish-green cloth whih is rubbed with some soiling and staining; boards are lightly bumped and worn at corners, flaking and dulling to spines' gilt lettering but still legible, light fraying and nicks at spine ends. Edges toned. Antiquarian five-line ink ownership inscriptions of Eliza J. Kilpatrick of Sparta, Ala. on each volumes' front pastedown with ink impressions onto opposing front free endpapers. Bindings are firm. VOLUME II [1856]: xii, 486 pages; edges and interior leaves toned; owner's ink initials also on rear pastedown; b/w frontispiece portrait of George Washington retains toned tissue guard sheet. VOLUME III [1857]: xiv, 483 pages; edges toned with toning shallowly affecting leaves at margins; some foxing as well; b/w frontispiece portrait of Israel Putnam retains tissue guard sheet. These books were among a large collection indirectly acquired from the estate of Troy State College (now Troy University) professor Emmett Kilpatrick (1890-1968). These books probably belonged to his aunt Eliza Jane Kilpatrick (1834-1858) as her parents (Emmett Kilpatrick's grandparents) resided in the Conecuh County town of Sparta, a settlement which died out after most of its prominent structures were burned by Union troops during the Civil War. Please note that this set's approximate shipping weight is 3.5 pounds and will require additional postage for any postal class other than domestic Media Mail. N° de réf. du libraire JUN17-06372
