A propos de cet article

Small octavo, pp. [1-11] 12-251 [252: printer's imprint] [253-256: blank] [note: first and last leaves used as front and rear paste-downs], original decorated maroon boards, front and spine panels stamped in gold. Photoplay edition. Film tie-in edition with the name of Ivor Novello, the actor who played the lodger, on the front panel. This 1927 film, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, was the first of five films based on THE LODGER, one of the earliest psychological suspense stories. "THE LODGER, which Lowndes developed from a previous short story of the same title, concerns a series of Jack the Ripper-style murders, and it is her finest work." - Pronzini and Muller, 1001 Midnights, pp. 494-5. ". a masterly fictional analysis of the Jack the Ripper murders." - Haycraft, Murder for Pleasure (1972), p. 81. ". a classic, not of detection, but of crime, social description, and at least plausible psychology." - Barzun and Taylor, A Catalogue of Crime 1416. A Haycraft-Queen "cornerstone." Early owner's name and date (March 1927) on the front paste-down. A nearly fine copy in nearly fine four-color dust jacket with wraparound illustration by A. Morrow based on scenes in the film, with mild rubbing to front corner tips and a small closed tear at lower edge of rear panel. A sharp copy. (#147497). N° de réf. du libraire 152756
