Titre : Lamberti Hortensij Montfortij Secessionum / ...
Edition : 1st Edition
Basileae ( Basel ) , ex officina Ioannis Oporini, M.D.XLVI ( 1546 ) , in-folio, 30,3 x 19,1 cm, 256 pp, with blank first a4 (complete, collation identical to Adams H1003). Bound in old vellum, ex-library with a single small 19th century stamp on the first fly leaf (unreadable). Title with four letters of the first line heightened in yellow. Also a large manuscript note pertaining to this this publication in a 18th century (?) hand. A very fine copy. Adams H1003. The author (Montfort 1500 - Naarden 1574) studied at the Collegium Trilingue at Leuven University and became a catholic priest in Utrecht. His sympathy for the Reformation earned him the nickname '' de Luyterse Paap '' ( the Lutheran Papist). This is the rare first edition of his study on the history of the diocese of Utrecht and how it was incorporated by Charles V of Habsburg, emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, into the Netherlands. A second edition in Latin was published nearly one hundred years later (in 1643 ). The first , apparently very poor translation into Dutch , was made by A. Strick and published in 1625 by Aert Meuris. (See A.J. van der Aa , Biographisch woordenboek vol. 8). . N° de réf. du libraire 38966
