The author, Friðrik Lúðvík 'Lúlli' Kristjánsson, was born in Fáskrúðsfjörður, East Iceland, 1887, son of Kristján Kristensen, Danish ship's captain, and Kristín Björnsdóttir (who was a first cousin to Icelandic poet Páll Ólafsson), immigrated to Canada at 16 in 1903, first to the Argyle Settlement, then to Winnipeg. He was active in the Good Templars society and the Icelandic National League, well known for his humorous poetry, entertained at many Icelandic gatherings in Winnipeg, wife Gestný Gestsdóttir.
