The subject matter of the poems in this work are often related to the Icelandic settlements in Canada - e.g., (rough translation of some of the titles of these Canadian poems include, at Gimli, Toast to Canada; Canada as some people see it, Politics (re Canadian Liberals and Conservatives). Another poem satirizes Manitoba Premier Roblin. BIO OF AUTHOR: The author was a well known Icelandic-Canadian writer (poet), publisher and pioneer of the suffragette movement, of which his wife, Margrjet was a leader. They lived in Winnipeg, Hecla Island and Selkirk, all in Manitoba, Canada. Sigfus established a printing press in Selkirk in 1898, and with his wife published the feminist journal Freyja, the FIRST women's suffrage periodical in Canada. It was also a literary paper.
