A propos de ce titre

Synopsis :

Now an Emmy Award-winning TV and film producer, former NBA star Chet Walker has written this eloquent first-person account of his illustrious sports career and the struggles, sacrifices, and successes--both personal and political--that have shaped his life.

From Booklist:

Chet Walker, now a successful film producer, was among the first wave of black NBA stars in the 1960s and 1970s. In this thoughtful autobiography, he looks back on a life that began in poverty in the rural South, examining the forces that shaped him and that brought him a piece of the American dream. Walker's generation coped with racism daily. When he was a child, there were "colored only" washrooms; as an adult, he was never given an opportunity to move into NBA management, whereas many of his mediocre white teammates have had mediocre careers in the front office. There's little or no bitterness in Walker. Rather than assessing blame, he seems to use the writing of his autobiography as a path to self-awareness. Yes, he was a basketball player; yes, he was a black man in racist America; yes, he's been a successful businessman. But no, he's never been solely defined by any of these roles. Intelligence, compassion, and a commitment to achievement define Chet Walker, and those qualities are evident everywhere in these pages. An excellent memoir. Wes Lukowsky
