Description :

This copy Signed by Bemelmans "Ludwig" on the half title page. Laid in is an old typescript of the text of Madeline's Rescue, double-spaced in 4 sheets; while it might be fun to speculate about the provenance of this, we can do only that -- speculate. The dustjacket has some loss, particularly at the spine ends; Caldecott Medal on the front panel. Each flap was at one time taped to a protective cover, and each flap has a amount of discoloration from the tape; also a small spot of discoloration on the verso of the front endpaper. The binding itself is quite clean. The dustjacket is not price-clipped and is protected with a new mylar cove.r. Very Good+ binding / Good dust jacket. N° de réf. du libraire

Description du livre The Viking Press, 1953. Hardcover. État : Good. Etat de la jaquette : Fair. Bemelmans; Ludwig (illustrateur). 1st Edition. A US 1st Edition 1st Print hardback copy indicated by the statement 'Published by the Viking Press in 1953' to the copyright page with no further printings mentioned. This story first appeared in Good Housekeeping. - SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, USING FIRST NAME ONLY, IN BLUE INK TO THE HALF TITLE PAGE, WITHOUR FURTHER INSCRIPTION. - The book is in good condition. Externally, it has ware to the top and bottom of the spine, with rubbing to the bottom of the boards and the outside corners of the boards, with some small loss to the cloth in these areas. Sunning to the page block. Internally, there is a previous owner's name written in pencil to the illustrated front paste-down, and a previous booksellers price and details, again written in pencil, to the reverse of the front free end paper. Otherwise, it is a good copy without tears to the pages or further inscription. - The dust jacket is in fair condition only but has not been price clipped with a price of $3.00 shown to the top of the front flap. Loss to the top and bottom of the spine cover- this amounts to 3cm at both ends (as can be seen in the pictures). There is also a tear running to almost all of the length of the spine cover where it meets the front, and this has been secured to the reverse using tape. Tears running along the front and back, with remnants of what appears to be a gold sticker to the front. 'The Caldecott' can be seen printed on these remnants (am assuming that this refers to the Caldecott Medal). Tears to the reverse. Sunning/ fading across the jacket, but it is still quite bright. Creasing running from the top to the bottom of the reverse flap. Signed by Author(s). N° de réf. du libraire 000683
