Original Boards. 4to. 47, [4], 4 pages. 28 cm. Limited edition of 1500 numbered copies: #242. 64 black and white plates, with 2 mounted color plates. Blue paper-covered boards with flaps in original matching dust jacket, both with white lettering on cover. Six chapters describe Chagall's life, including An Approach to Chagall, Origins - 1887-1909, The Shock of Paris - 1910-1914, The Return to the Native Land, Paris and Love - 1923-1930, and finally Meditations, Dreams and Nightmares. Written by Lionelli Venturi (1885-1961) , an Italian art critic and historian and friend of Chagall, he went into exile twice, owing to Mussolini, and again, owing to Vichy France, and returned to Italy after the war. Subjects: Chagall, Marc, 1887-1985. Exile Literature. Art – Monographs. Light wear to edges of jacket and boards, otherwise fresh and clean. Good condition. (SPEC-39-19).
