Octavo, original blue-gray cloth stamped in gold. First edition, first printing. Fourteen short stories. A previous owner has added short comments in pencil to some of the story titles on the contents page, such as "clever, beautiful gruesome" (re: "The Skeleton"); "good atmosphere & restraint" (re: "The River Stairs"); "snappy -- clever technique" (re: "My Fair Neighbor"). A mystical streak runs through Tagore's fiction, not to mention his plays and poetry (of which he wrote over 100,000 lines). The author was educated partly in England, and he translated some of his own work into English, as well as sometimes composing in English. He received the Nobel Prize in 1913. Private owner's bookplate affixed to front paste-down. Patchy fading to cloth, else a very good copy. (#117291). N° de réf. du libraire 117291
