Description :

In two volumes, 306, 284 +(1) pp., from the original German of Max von Eelking. Bound in original blind stamped bezeled green cloth, spine lettering gilt, frontispieces. Only minor shelf wear showing the slightest wear to spine tips, previous owner's bookplate, inner hinges cracked through endpapers otherwise a very nice set, This veteran of the Battle of Minden took command of 4,000 Brunswick mercenaries at the beginning of the war. Part of his duty was to teach the British troops how to fight American fashion. He accompanied Burguoyne in his invasion of the Champlain Valley and was made prisoner at Saratoga. It is believe that Burgoyne had followed his advice, the British might have made a successful retreat into Canada. Major-General Riedesel was paroled and in 1779 served under Clinton on Long Island. scarce. N° de réf. du libraire st.0014
