Titre : THE MOMENT AFTER: A TALE OF THE UNSEEN .
Éditeur : William Heinemann, London
Date d'édition : 1890
Reliure : Hardcover
Edition : 1st Edition
Octavo, pp. [1-7] 8 10-212 + 16-page publisher's catalogue dated "August 1890" at rear, original black cloth, all panels stamped in brown, fore- and bottom edges untrimmed. First edition. A short novel about the after-life, narrated by a prison doctor who comes across a manuscript claiming to describe the experiences of a condemned man after he was hanged. An epilogue contains the dead man's narrative. A fairly well-written work, as one would expect from this prestigious publisher. Bleiler (1978), p. 33. Reginald 02096. A clean text block in a binding that is leaned, worn at corners and missing a bit more than half its spine panel, which has an irregular vertical split. An unattractive copy -- it could be re-backed -- of a book that tends to not show up in good condition if it shows up. Heinemann brought out Vernon Lee's HAUNTINGS in the same year and that book also has suffered through the years due to similar binding problems: a text block too heavy for the weak endpapers, thin binding cloth and bad sewing.
