This book is comprised of essays based largely upon lectures delivered by the author, a prominent editor among the Icelandic settlers in Canada, to the Icelandic Cultural Society in Winnipeg His essays or lectures concern a wide range of cultural matters, including commentaries on Icelandic and Icelandic Canadian poetry and prose. The author, Reverend Gudmunder A. Arnason, was a Minister of the Icelandic Unitarian Church in Winnipeg in the early years of the 20th century. He became editor of the Icelandic-Canadian literary monthly Heimer, in 1911. He was also a member of the editorial staff of the Icelandic-Canadian periodical Neisum (Spark), founded in 1904. Along with Rev. Rognvaldur Petursson, he compiled a catechism that was used in the Manitoba Unitarian churches. (Kristjanson, pp. 269, 357, 362-363). Referenced in Hjartar (p. 20).
