A propos de cet article

Fison, Charles F., and Hubert G. Malaher, eds. A Manual for Stewards at Missionary Loan Exhibitions. London: Church Missionary Society 1899. 136p, many photos and line ills. Very good hardcover (no d.j., if issued?). ** Detailed guide to the display and description of artifacts and living arrangements of the non-western or "heathen" world in missionary society exhibitions. These installations aimed to "awaken inquiry about, and enkindle interest in, the spiritual condition of millions of peoples who have never yet, in all these centuries, been evangelized by the Church of Christ." Divided into West Africa, East Africa, Mohammedan Lands (Palestine, Egypt, and Persia), India (with Ceylon and Burmah), China, Japan, North-West Canada, and sometimes New Zealand and Australasia. With a cautionary chapter, "The Necessity of Special Wisdom in Dealing with the Young." Very scarce. Can be sent outside the U.S. for less than the default shipping rate. [Expositions, Ethnography]. Description de la librairie

I¿ve been selling and appraising GOOD HORSE AND ART BOOKS since 1973, first by mail as Blue Rider Books, and since 1983 in the full-time open shop that I share with H.L. Mendelsohn (whose books are also on ABE). We¿d love to have you visit the second-oldest secondhand bookshop in Cambridge, just outside Harvard Square (open Tuesday-Saturday noon to 6, or by appointment). If you can¿t make it, go to www.bledsoebooks.com for many (but by no means all) of my books. My inventory of new, used, and rare equestrian books is one of the largest in the U.S., with special depth in Paul Brown, 19th-century books, dressage, and ephemera (paper items). I love to seek out the obscure, the uncommon, and the overlooked. Harvey Mendelsohn and I also offer a room full of out-of-print scholarly titles on the fine and applied arts, especially art history, architecture and planning, book arts, gardens, 20th-century ceramics, photography, and exhibition catalogues. And you¿ll also find some children¿s books, cookbooks, titles in cultural history and philosophy, and other general books. Many of our books never make it online, so if you¿re looking for items you don¿t see here, please phone or e-mail. Then maybe you, too, like hundreds of happy customers over the years, will say, ¿You have it? YOU¿VE MADE MY DAY!¿
