A propos de ce titre

Synopsis :

...required reading for those who know, or would like to know, the way things were in the Air Force of yesterday.--Air Force Magazine

From Publishers Weekly:

During World War II, "Tooey" Spaatz directed tactical air operations in the North African and Sicilian campaigns, took over U.S. strategic air forces in Europe until the German surrender, then directed the final strategic bombing of Japan. In 1947, he became the first chief of staff of the newly independent Air Force. A quiet, unpretentious man, Spaatz was not a colorful figure but he was a first-class military leader and organizer. Mets pays particular attention to Spaatz's career between the world wars, when he acquired staff and command experience that prepared him for the task of developing air-war policy during World War II, while building the organizations that implemented it. A natural diplomat, Spaatz resisted attempts by the Royal Air Force to gain control of U.S. strategic air forces and later walked a fine line between the two powerful U.S. army and navy commanders in the Pacific, General Douglas MacArthur and Admiral Chester Nimitz. Description de la librairie

Located in the heart of historic downtown Springfield, Prairie Archives has been serving Central Illinois since 1973. We have occupied three locations since our founding and our current store has been located at 522 E. Adams since 1992. We have approximately 250,000 books in stock, documents, manuscript material, posters, prints, comics, collectibles, magazines, political buttons, postcards and lots more! If you don't see a title you're looking for, please feel free to inquire; only a small part of our stock is catalogued. Our store hours are 10-5 Central time Monday through Saturday. We also carry a line of t-shirts, including the ever-popular "Abraham Lincoln: They'd have to shoot me to get me back to Springfield" and "Frank Lloyd Wright: I can design a building that would look good even in Springfield". Please inquire about our other designs, sizes and prices. And of course, we can't leave without mentioning Hannah, our golden retriever. She has run things here since she was a puppy [October, 1994]; she brings more business to the shop than anyone else. Always friendly, cheerful, and affectionate (especially when someone has food!) She has recently been joined by Ruby, a young and energetic black lab. Hannah and Ruby say "Come See Us!"
