Subject : Rare program booklet for a Þorrablót (Thorrablot) festival held in Winnipeg, Canada, on January 4, 1904 by a club of Icelandic emigrants/immigrants from a specific area of Iceland. The booklet contains poems by prominent Icelanders and western (i.e. Canadian) Icelanders, a lengthy menu featuring festival foods, and lists of events (e.g. speeches, songs). Poems by the following included: Jonas Hallgrimsson, Einar Hjorleifsson Kvaran (Kvaran lived in Canada for 10 years during which time he wrote the book Vonir on an entirely North American motif and edited key periodicals), and MatthiasJochumsson. The booklet indictes that the following additional prominent people addressed or read poems at the festival though the text thereof is not included: Olafur S. Thorgeirsson (address of welcome), Bjorn Halldorsson read a poem entitled Minni Islands (memories of Iceland); Sera/Pastor Jon Bjarnason of Winnipeg read a selection entitled Minni forfedranna; Icelandic Canadian Pastor Fridrik J Bergmann read a piece called Minni Vestern Islendinga or memories of western (i.e. Canadian and American) Icelanders; another Icelandic Canadian Pastor, Niels Steingrimur Thorlaksson read a selection called Minni Kvennna; Baldvin Larus Baldvinsson read his piece, Minni konungs, and of course God Save the King was sung.
