A propos de cet article

Language: English . Brand New Book. Fascination with murder is not a modern phenomenon. People in the past were just as interested in extreme violence and homicide as people nowadays. In the seventeenth century all excessive and gratuitous violence was condemned and prosecuted, with murderers being categorized as particularly wicked. The courtrooms where murderers were tried were packed and crowds attended their execution. Ballads about notorious cases and prints reflected the huge interest such cases generated. Yet, in a world with no police and little forensic expertise, identification, pursuit and prosecution presented many difficulties. Murder in Shakespeare s England looks at a series of murder cases, ranging from brawls to infanticide, and including serial and sex killings, to paint a picture of how murder was committed, discovered and punished in Stuart England. A propos de ce titre

Synopsis :

Murder in Seventeenth-Century England is a grisly social history of how murder was committed, discovered and punished in Stuart England. It looks at many specific cases, providing details on the most popular serial killings, sex-based murders, and infanticide deaths of the time. The book shows that, just as today, people in the seventeenth century were fascinated with these violent crimes, filling the courts to watch the trials and crowding the execution squares to watch the hangings, even writing ballads and creating graphic prints on the most notorious cases of the times. With fascinating detail on how these crimes were ever successfully solved with little or no forensic evidence, this book will be intriguing to history buffs and true crime readers alike.
