A propos de cet article

Limited numbered edition of 2,000, with six line drawings by Avigdor Arikha, first thus. Arikha wrote that Grove "lost" the original line drawings, so the book is all that remains. Though Barney Rosset, founder of Grove, might’ve dropped them in his huge swimming pool or eaten them or godknowswhat. He’s the same guy who secretly recorded Beckett under the table, published huge amounts of pornography, though also published the fabulous Evergreen Review where many first encountered European writing in parochial America. This is the pre-Grove French edition; in either language these are some of Beckett’s most moving, and important, texts. Unopened, almost near fine condition except for small dent, a bump on upper right-hand corner of cover, and name in ink on front free endpaper ("John Du Cane" – British avant-garde filmmaker and influential Time Out critic in its heyday of the early 70’s. When a student at Churchill College, Cambridge, horrible George Steiner physically tore up Du Cane’s first paper saying it was rubbish what a confidence builder. But whenever some cop stopped a busker at Tottenham Court Road tube station, or just someone looking "different" on the streets, John would immediately ask the cop to identify himself, give his license number or whatever it is called, and watch for Midlands Police-force style behaviour. Busted in Thailand, freed from loathsome prison conditions by his London pals’ outraged letters, now living quietly in the American Midwest. Amen.). N° de réf. du libraire INDE-C7075
