Reliure : Hardcover
Octavo, two volumes: pp. 566; 853; plus two map cases, 47 inserted plates, 11 maps and 43 plans, original blue cloth stamped in gold. Second edition. This is an extraordinarily detailed account of the first major war of the twentieth century and, along with the German official history (which has been translated into English), it must be considered one of the major primary sources of information for historians. It was first published between 1906 and 1910 in five volumes bound in cloth-backed boards with maps and plans either bound into each volume or tucked into a pocket at rear of each volume. The present edition was bound for greater durability and convenience. The third volume of the work, published in 1920, is missing. Bookplate of Guards Club on front paste-down of each text volume. Spine panels a little darkened, two corners bumped, top edge of text volumes dusty, a very good set; all fold-out maps and plans are present and in excellent condition. (#147187).
