(Square Pegs in Round Holes. Situations and Cryptostructures). In March 1969, two key exhibitions of conceptual sculpture opened in Bern and Amsterdam: When Attitudes Become Form (works-concepts-processes-situations-information) and Op Losse Schroeven, Situaties en cryptostructuren (Square Pegs in Round Holes. Situations and Cryptostructures). Both exhibitions brought together developments in Minimal art, Arte Povera, Land art and Conceptual art from the United States and Western Europe at a time when the nature of art production and the use of the gallery space was changing dramatically. Some of the same artists were involved in both shows, including Carl Andre, Joseph Beuys, Mario Merz, Barry Flanagan. The work was highly innovative and many pieces involved direct intervention into the fabric of the gallery. Some works existed only as information in the catalogue. Both shows toured Europe. After traveling to the Museum Haus Lange, Krefeld, When Attitudes Become Form, went to the ICA, London in September 1969. Op Losse Schroeven opened at the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam and traveled to the Museum Folkwang, Essen under the title Verborgene Struckturen (Hidden Structures). The catalogue for the Stedelijk Museum includes a section of 'page projects' by the artists in the show. N° de réf. du libraire 209
