Contemporary straight-grained red morocco, boards bordered with a gilt rule, spine divided by raised bands between gilt rules, second compartment and foot gilt-lettered direct, marbled endpapers, edges gilt. Paper toned, occasional minor spotting. Binding rubbed and scratched, darkened at edges and spine, a touch of wear to corners. Gesner's Horace was frequently reprinted, with this being a particularly elegant example from the Edinburgh academic press.
