Jefferys, one reproducing a print of a view of Victoria, BC, Canada, in 1860, title page printed in red and black, original pictorial maroon cloth, stamped in tan, light blue and black. First edition. Presentation copy with inscription by Higgins dated 28 October 1905 signed "The Author" on the front free endpaper. Stories of pioneer days on the Pacific Coast, at least five of which are set in California, by a former Speaker of the British Columbia Legislature. Half a dozen of the stories concern ghosts and spiritualism, approaching the subject neither enthusiastically nor skeptically but with a certain detachment.
