Includes letter signed Aaron Ogden and William Tuttle (from the New Jersey-based committee of veterans of the American Revolution). Ogden (1756-1839), American Revolutionary soldier, lawyer and steamboat operator; graduate of the College of New Jersey (i.e. Princeton) in 1773; US Senator (1801-03); elected Governor of New Jersey on a peace ticket (1812); later involved in the famous US Supreme Court case (Gibbons vs. Ogden, 1824) due to his steamboat activities; became customs collector at Jersey City from 1829 until death.
