A vast and comprehensive treatise which covers all of commercial and contract law, written by Joseph Gibalin (1592-1671), a Jesuit scholar and teacher at the college of Lyon. Title continues: 'In que negotiorum humanorum sequitas per omnes negotiationis causas, materias, formas universales ac singulares contractuum, commerciorum, atque [ ] diversa genera, ex iisque ortas obligationes, scientifice & solide explicatur, humanarum scientiarum & artium rectus ac prauus usus demonstratur, singulorum statuum, officiorum ac munerum rationes, atque adeo universae Oeconomicae & Politicae traduntur.' Two folio volumes, measuring approximately 14 by 9.5 inches, [(9) + 668pp. + index] + [(6) + 718pp. + index]. Text is printed in dual columns. Title-pages printed in red & black. With decorative woodcut initials, headpieces, and other devices throughout. Lovely title-page engravings, measuring approximately 6.25 by 3.75 inches. Bound in contemporary full vellum over boards, with gilt title-labels to spine. Bindings are intact and in very good condition with only minor scuffing and soiling to extremities. Contents are in good condition with expected foxing and tanning throughout; Volume II has a dampstain affecting upper corner of the last 50 or so pages, primarily the index.
