A propos de cet article

286 pages, a clean, unread copy in protective mylar jacket, First UK edition, First printing, The author's first novel. Traumatised by an accident that involves something falling from the sky and leaving him eight and a half million pounds richer, our hero spends his time and money obsessively reconstructing and re-enacting memories and situations from his past. But when this fails to quench his thirst for authenticity, he starts reconstructing more violent events This highly original novel took a little time to be appreciated. Some of the larger UK publishing houses were wary of its appeal. The Paris underground publisher Metronome were the first to print a very modest 750 copies (2005) followed by the newly formed UK independent publisher Alma in a signed limited edition of 200 and thereafter, this edition also by Alma and then in North America by Vintage. On its American publication the New York Times dedicated the front cover of its book section to the novel, calling the book "a work of novelistic philosophy, as disturbing as it is funny" Size: 8 vo,. Synopsis :

Traumatised by an accident which involves something falling from the skyA" and leaves him eight and a half million pounds rich- er but hopelessly estranged from the world around him, Remainder's hero spends his time and money obsessively reconstructing and re-enacting vaguely remembered scenes and situations from his past: a large building with piano music in the distance, the familiar smells and sounds of liver frying and spluttering, lethargic cats lounging on roofs until they tumble off them...But when this fails to quench his thirst for authenticity, he starts reconstructing more and more violent events, as his repetition addiction spirals out of control.
