Signed by Siodmak on the title page. Romantic melodrama about an attempt to sabotage a floating platform being towed to the location where it is to be used as a refueling station for transatlantic air traffic. Translation of F. P. 1 ANTWORTET NICHT (1930). The 1932 UFA film, directed by Karl Hartl and scripted by Walter Reisch and Siodmak, was based on this novel. After emigrating to America, Siodmak had a long career in Hollywood as a scriptwriter and movie director. Today he is perhaps best remembered for his horror novel, DONOVAN'S BRAIN, upon which three feature films were based. Anatomy of Wonder (1976) 3-51; (1981) 2-92; and (1987) 2-101. Bleiler, Science-Fiction: The Early Years 2045. Locke, A Spectrum of Fantasy, p. 199. Bleiler (1978), p. 180. Reginald 13244. Circulating library stamp on front paste-down, remnants of library check out slip on rear free endpaper, some staining to page edges, a very good copy in good dust jacket with brown paper backing on inner surface, light wear at edges, spine panel is age-darkening to spine panel, shelf wear to corners and spine ends, and soiling to rear panel. Signed copies of this book are uncommon, especially in jacket. (#136672). N° de réf. du libraire 136672
