Description du livre Phaidon Christie's. London. 1989 1st edition. Square folio (243 x 286mm). Pp160. Foreword by The Duke of Edinburgh. Superb colour photographs throughout. Blind-stamped motif to green boards, upper board and spine titled in gilt. Slight use, some pages slightly wrinkled, good-plus. Tape-marks to rear of slightly used dust-wrapper. Seventy five of the finest guns from the Royal collection are photographed and described in detail. "Some seventy-five guns have been chosen for their technical qualities, fine decoration and historical associations. They include the elaborately decorated shotgun presented by King Leopold to the future Edward VII, the boy-sized muzzle-loader that three kings learnt to shoot with, a failed entrant in the competition to choose a new standard army rifle in the 1860's, a Belgian rifle captured as a trophy in the Crimean War, and a gold-plated four-barrelled Lancaster pistol in a blue velvet presentation case. The guns have been brilliantly photographed in colour, while supporting illustrations show fascinating details, accessories and archive material. The accompanying text tells each gun's story and brings out the enormous range of interest to be found in this collection. Full technical details are alqays given.". N° de réf. du libraire 20668
