This individual and often humerous account tells what life was really like as a soldier and a driver in the Royal Army Service Corps, (RASC), from early 1943 to one day short of five years service in 1948, and of the unforgettable circumstances encountered by himself and many others during the war and immediate post war period. Follow the experiences of one person’s life that underwent considerable change from the age of just sixteen as he spent two years in the Home Guard, then after enlisting in the army, fourteen weeks of basic and driver training, fifteen months at Aldershot and eventually a three year tour of duty on the continent following D-Day, driving thousands of miles through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany until his eventual demobilisation shortly after his marriage in Germany. The book is complemented by over 250 photographs (many personal and unseen) plus a number of articles and extensive appendices which together provide an exclusive and interesting personal aspect to a unique period of history.
