PUBLISHER: Reykjavik, Menningarsjods, 1969. DESCRIPTION: 238 p. port. 22 cm. This is the augmented second edition. Fine in mulicolour hardcover; remarkably nice condition. CONTENTS: Poetry. CONSIDERABLE CANADIAN CONTENT; for example, 40 poems added to this second ed. come from two Icelandic-Canadian journals (Logberg and Timarit); biography of author (8 pages) written by Haraldur Bessasson, former Head of Icelandic Department, University of Manitoba: Forward is by Manitoba Icelander Ingibjorn Jonsson; poem about Icelandic couple living in Baldur, Manitoba (p. 210); also a commemoratie poem about a resident of Riverton, Manitoba (p. 206): wedding anniv. poem re couple in Riverton, Manitoba; another poem re 25th wedding anniv. of Arborg, Manitoba doctor Bjornsson and his wife Maria. Watson Kirkonnell, p. 42, states that the author's poetry is of "high quality"; Beck in "History of Icelandic Poets" also speaks highly of the author's poetry and translations (pp 231-233]. The author came to Canada in 1913 from Iceland, and became the editor of the leading Icelandic-Canadian journal, Logberg, that was then (and is still) published in Winnipeg.
