Description :

Octavo, later large octavo, 13 issues, first four numbers and convention supplement hectographed, remainder mimeographed, printed or pictorial wrappers, stapled. Thirteen of the fourteen issues; a complete file of all the issues published under this title, including the convention supplement. Contributors include Sam Moskowitz, Richard Wilson, Jr., Harry Warner, Jr., Robert A. W. Lowndes, Forrest J. Ackerman, Leo Margulies, Henry Kuttner, A. Merritt, C. L. Moore, John W. Campbell, Jr. (as "Don A. Stuart"), Ross Rocklynne, Donald Wandrei, August Derleth, Clark Ashton Smith, David H. Keller, H. P. Lovecraft, Jack Williamson, and others. The Summer 1940 issue, dedicated to the memory of H. P. Lovecraft, includes the first printing of "The Very Old Folk," the text of a long letter from Lovecraft to Donald Wandrei dated 2 November 1927. "Walter Marconette published four quarterly issues of SCIENTI-SNAPS in 1938, not including the special number for the First National Science Fiction Convention. His companion publication, SCIENCE-FANTASY MOVIE REVIEW, also appeared five times during the year. Following the trend of the times, the former title became a mimeographed journal with its February, 1939, number, and combined with the latter with the following April issue. Marconette's mimeography, like his hektography, was a paragon of neatness; and his magazine continued to increase in popularity through the first half of 1939, featuring a medley of fiction, articles and columns by well known fans of the day. In August, J. Chapman Miske was added to its staff, and he aided in producing the finest chapters of its history." - Moskowitz, The Immortal Storm, pp. 200-201. A "beautiful little publication ." - Warner, All Our Yesterdays, p. 279. The final issue of SCIENTI-SNAPS (a typeset issue not included in this file) was published in January 1941 as BIZARRE. Pavlat and Evans, Fanzine Index (1965), p. 104. Joshi I-B-v-b-31 and III-G-iii-16. All issues are in near fine to fine condition. (#131557). N° de réf. du libraire 131557
