A propos de cet article

Octavo, pp. [i-xi] xii [1] 2-309 [310: printer's imprint] [311-312: blank] [note: last leaf is a blank], 27 illustrations by J. Ayton Symington, title page printed in red and black, original pictorial olive green cloth, front and spine panels stamped in white. First edition. "A prolific writer of fiction and poetry, Louisa MacDonald was at the heart of late Victorian and Edwardian political and artistic society. The MacDonald sisters married into a number of influential families and Louisa's celebrated relations included the artist Edward Byrne-Jones, her brother-in-law, and Rudyard Kipling, her nephew [this book is dedicated to Kipling]. Her own marriage to Alfred Baldwin, the politician and industrialist, produced a son, Stanley, who later became Prime Minister." - Wilson, Shadows in the Attic, p. 45. "Fairly conventional, commercial Victorian ghost stories . except for ["The Empty Picture Frame"], which has touches that lift it above the other stories." - Bleiler, The Guide to Supernatural Fiction 82. Bleiler (1978), p. 14. Reginald 00757. Cloth worn at upper spine end, spine panel tanned, endpapers darkened, else a very good copy. A nice copy overall. (#134579). N° de réf. du libraire 134579
