Titre : THE SPIRIT OF DESPOTISM
Éditeur : Lang and Ustick for Matthew Carey, Philadelphia
Date d'édition : 1795
Edition : First American Edition
Knox's response to an unhappy event which took place in Brighton. After preaching a sermon in the local church on the wrongness of offensive war he was attacked several days later when attending the theater in Brighton. THE SPIRIT OF DESPOTISM was printed anonymously a year or so later and affords an analysis of how political despotism can spring up under cover of fighting a foreign war. Some might think this topical. A decent copy with some loss to the leather at the front board and the top of the spine -- all archivally and attractively repaired. Original morocco spine label is present. (Sabin 89471). N° de réf. du libraire 248936
