London, Aug. 29th, 1771. (Petherick Reprint 1882, limited to 50 hand-numbered copies this being No. 3). Sm. 4to. 8pp. As issued. Uncut. Extremely rare. Ferguson 8935; Hocken p.9. Ferguson notes that the Petherick reprint, as here offered, has become very rare due partly to the American interest. He also states "So keen was the interest excited by Cook's Account of New Zealand that this odd scheme was devised to help the poor natives. Perhaps Dalrymple's jealousy of Cook was the motif, as the former offered and expected to command the expedition. At any rate it is the first systematic proposal to connect the two countries.".
