Includes Appendices, Index, and References to Officers and others referred to the biography. Brancker commanded The Northern Brigade, RFC in 1916 and The Middle East, RFC, in 1917. A carefully researched book which provides insight into high level air policy and administration. Slight scuffing and several very tiny chips to jacket, which is not price clipped. Description du livre First edition hard back binding in publisher's original powder blue buckram covers, gilt title and author lettering to the spine. 8vo. 9'' x 6''. Contains [xxv] 491 printed pages of text with two monochrome photographs. Surface stain to the bottom edge of the rear board, sun fading to the areas on the spine where the dust wrapper has pieces of paper missing. Good condition book in Good condition dust wrapper with internally repaired tears across the spine ends and corners, spine sun faded. Together with Lord Thomson, the Air Minister, Sefton Brancker was killed when the airship R101 crashed near Beauvais, France on 5 October 1930, during its maiden voyage to India. Includes original 4½'' x 6½'' monochrome photograph of Sefton Brancker at a charity fête in London holding an aeroplane and with signed contemporary inscription on the reverse by unknown 'Here is the photograph taken at your stall, with all good wishes to you and to the North and West London Branch', the reverse also has an indigo stamp from 'London News Agency Photos Ltd.' Sefton Brancker has SIGNED below his image on the photograph 'Sefton Brancker.' Dust wrapper supplied in archive acetate film protection, it does not adhere to the book or to the dust wrapper. Description du livre An historically significant Jean Batten ASSOCIATION COPY: dated, signed and inscribed by the AUTHOR in 1931 to VICTOR DOREE, a fellow pioneer WW1 Royal Air Corps pilot, who in 1932 bought JEAN BATTEN her famous 'Gipsy Moth' aeroplane. Thus, it is likely that this copy of this book was a deciding factor in determining that Jean Batten would fly a Gipsy Moth. From the library of Ian Mackersey, Batten's biographer.
