This is a complete set of 50 volumes of an Icelandic-Canadian literary journal that was published from 1919-1968, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. PUBLISHER: Winnipeg : Þjóðræknisfélag Íslendinga, 1919-[1968]. DESCRIPTION: v. : ill., ports. ; 26 cm. CONDITION: All volumes in Very Good condition or better in printed paper (card) covers. Some early copies have wear to spine, still overall a VG set. They average about 150 pages in length and all measure 26 X 18 cm. CONTENTS: Kristjansson, in The Icelandic People in Manitoba (pp. 465 and 501), states that this journal : " . . . has featured historical and literary articles, plays, and poetry by the best Icelandic-American [read Icelandic Canadian and American] writers . . . it has consistently maintained a high standard.". The editors were Dr. Rognvaldur Petursson and Gisli Jonsson, with Gisli Jonsson and Professor Haraldur Bessason [former Head of Icelandic Studies, U. of Manitoba] co-editors since 1962]. The very first item in the first issue is a poem by the noted Icelandic-Candian poet Stephan G. Stephansson and he has three additional pages on poetry in this first issue; also in this inaugural issue is an article about the Icelandic-Canadian/American explorer Vilhjalmur Stephansson. This serial also contains many commercial advertisements. SUBJECTS: Canadian periodicals (Icelandic); Icelandic Canadians--Periodicals; Périodiques canadiens (islandais); Canadiens d'origine islandaise--Périodiques; literature; literary journals. Referenced in Hjartar, p. 73. Very unusual to find a complete set, particularly of this high quality. N° de réf. du libraire 35298
