Éditeur : George Newnes, Limited n.d. ., London
Date d'édition : 1931
Reliure : Hardcover
Edition : 1st Edition
Octavo, pp. [1-10] 11-256 [note: first leaf used as front paste-down; true endpapers at rear], original blue-gray cloth, front and spine panels stamped in gold. First edition, first binding. Collects fourteen short stories of adventure set in the South Seas and linked through the recurring character of the narrator, Mynheer Amayat, "the man to whom pearl dealers and Canton merchants and distracted Police Commissioners apply as a last resort in cases of robbery, blackmail, arson, murder ." "The Rajah of Gool" is a somewhat ambiguous tale of a were-tiger. "The Witch Doctor," "Lantern Lane" and "Dead Girl Finotte" relate supernatural events with similar tactful ambiguity. The other stories are of crime and detection. All are told with the author's customary mastery of pacing and local color. Hubin (1994), p. 763. Not in the Colbeck catalogue. Mild spine lean, some light spotting along top edges of front and rear covers, front free endpaper a bit tanned, a bright, clean, very good copy. Scarce. (#150743). N° de réf. du libraire 150743
