First edition in English. A translation of KAMPF ZWEIER WELTEN (Vienna 1935). "Intelligent ants menace the regimented and scientific world of A.D. 2000." - Clarke, Tale of the Future (1978), p. 69. The ants and their allies, the termites, are not super insects with advanced weapons or superior technology. They are normal (but intelligent) insects who band together to end mankind's total dominance of the planet which (by the time the war begins) has resulted in the destruction of nearly all animal life on earth. The insects develop an effective method to destroy all of the earth's cultivated food crops. They demand half of the planet's surface in exchange for peaceful coexistence of man and insect. The war ends when the insects have made their point and settle for a fifth of land. Basically an antiwar fiction. Locke, A Spectrum of Fantasy, p.69. Negley, Utopian Literature 279. Sargent, British and American Utopian Literature, 1516-1985, p. 210. Bleiler (1978), p. 69. Reginald 04258. See Bloch (2002) 724. A very good copy in good pictorial dust jacket with shallow chipping at head and tail of spine panel and corners and rubbing along spine and flap folds. A very elusive book seldom found in jacket.
