Description :

Cave tells McCauley that he has written to Toni Simmons, an editor at Ballantine Books, in response to her request for literary submissions by Cave. Cave responded with a synopsis of a short novel, which he encloses, along with a copy of his letter to Simmons. He leaves it up to McCauley as how best to proceed at this point. The novel is set in the Caribbean, like most of Cave's work (he notes in his letter to Simmons that he spent 5 years in Haiti researching voodoo, then 17 in Jamaica running a coffee plantation he owned). The story is a typical woman's book: a domestic drama with a romantic triangle intersecting the doings at an old mansion where some orphans have been taken in, antagonizing a woman next door who schemes to get them evicted. All ends well. Sorry, no voodoo. In his letter to Simmons, Cave provides a short summary of his career. Kirby McCauley was probably the most important literary agent of horror, fantasy and sf writers in the boom years of the 1970s and 1980s. Faint creases where folded for mailing, paper-clip indentations at top, else fine. (#102310). N° de réf. du libraire 102310
