A propos de ce titre

Synopsis :

Norman Mack, owner and operator of Mack Brothers Garage, tells a story about a timid little girl, an old blue car, and a strange, almost mystical encounter in an old-time country gas station.

From School Library Journal:

Grade 2-4-- As the owner of a garage in a remote village works at the gas pumps, a shiny old sedan occupied by an elderly man and a young girl drives up. It has a slipping fan belt. The mechanic, an older man himself, suddenly realizes that this car must be the very one his father had owned. It turns out that, yes, this is the same vehicle that the mechanic's father had sold to the present owner's father many years ago. The mechanic speculates that someday in the future this girl will return to have the car repaired by his son. This is a simple vignette, a recollection rather than a story, and while a pleasant reminiscence, it lacks any dramatic incident to make it memorable. Then, too, there is a niggling flaw in the logic. The garage owner recalls that the car ``. . . got to be so much trouble to fix that my father had to sell it.'' It seems unlikely that with such a history it would reappear in mint condition 40 or 50 years later. The accompanying oil paintings are bright and strong. Their vitality keeps readers from dozing off. --Phyllis G. Sidorsky, National Cathedral School, Washington, DC
