Alexandre Gustave Eiffel December 15, 1832 ? December 27, 1923) promintent French structural engineer from the École Centrale Paris, an architect, an entrepreneur and a specialist of metallic structures. He is acclaimed for designing the world-famous Eiffel Tower, built 1887?1889 for the 1889 Universal Exposition in Paris, France.This limited editon work by Eiffel is one of the earliest complete monographs on a modern building. It has served as the standard for all subsequent studies on the architecture of 19th century metal structures. This work was published at the author?s expense and was never issued commercially but rather it was given by Eiffel to public libraries, universities, French and foreign scientific societies, and important contemporaries.
