Description du livre Charles S. Francis, New York, 1834. Hardcover. État : Very Good. No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Absorbing early text on minor surgical procedures. The book carries the book plate of the Long Island Historical Society, recording its loanto the library of the Medical Society of the County of Kings in 1901. There is also a signaturte in an antique hand on the title page. Book has brown buckrtam boards with bright gilt spine titling, the spine cloth being somewhat faded. The boards have moderate corner wear but are otherwise in decent condition. Inside has lpartially trimmed fore edges and light foxing, manly at the ends. 376 pages plus appendix. Text body is clean and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is sound. Spine title: Bourgery's Surgery. Three-quarter gilt stamped leather and marbled paper over boards, xvi, 376 pages, xxviii, Appendix includes notes by the translators (William C. Roberts and James P. Kissam), Index in front of book, Preface by the author and Preface by the translator. At one point this must have been a handsome volume, but is now ugly, but sound. Marbled paper has worn/torn off the front boards and is chipped and scuffed on the back board, leather is worn, end papers darkly toned, moderate foxing throughout, many pages creased at corner and along fore edges, previous owner name on front free end paper as well as front flyleaf, some damp stains on the front end papers.
