This volume is a compilation of a number of items related to "Trilby": (1) A frontispiece portrait of George Du Maurier taken from Harper's Weekly in 1894. (2) The original text of "Trilby" with its's many illustrations as first published in the pages of Harpers New Monthly Magazine in 1894. The text pages have been gathered and bound in this volume (no covers or advertising); (3) (iv), 41 pages of "Trilbyana - The Rise and Progress of a Popular Novel" - printed in New York in 1895 by The Critic Co. The frontispiece illustration is of "Mr. Du Maurier's First Drawing In Punch" showing himself and Mr. Whistler. The pages of "Trilbyana" have been professionally mounted onto larger pages. (4) is a 5 inch by 7 inch broadside from the Garden Theatre - "Under the sole direction of Mr. A. M. Palmer" - July 1st to July 6th, 1895 - "Mr. Palmer announces The First New York Production of Trilby". This broadside has been mounted onto a larger page. (5) are 8 pages, each with a mounted illustration of characters from the play. Not the new York play - they appear to be from an English production. (6) An article from McClure's Magazine in April 1895 - "The Author Of Trilby - An Autobiographic Interview With Mr. George Du Maurier". This contains a photographic frontispiece of George Du Maurier and 10 pages of text. (7) "The Comparative Trilby Glossary - French-English" by James Schonberg. Published by J. Hovendon of New York in 1895 - 26 pages all mounted onto larger pages. The book is bound in 3/4 green morocco leather with marbled boards. The green morocco has sun-faded to medium brown on the spine and the front cover. The spine is in 5 compartments with still bright gilt lettering and gilt ruling. There are a few unobtrusive discolorations on the front cover. The book is very clean and the covers are perfectly attached with both the spine and the covers having very good, unworn and unbumped edges. The pages are very clean, still crisp and are tightly bound. There is an 1895 gift inscription on the frontpaper with the owner's blindstamp. The book measures 7 by 10 inches. N° de réf. du libraire
