A propos de cet article

168 pp. Published in conjunction with a 2002 exhibition at the International Center of Photography in New York City. For 30 years Tice drove New Jersey roads and streets with his camera. He used an 8x10 view finder camera because he was looking for the richness of detail it could record. Though he hails from New Jersey (the subject of many of these b&w photographs), Tice is a well-known summer resident of Maine. This signed copy was presented to Burt Hatlen, University of Maine professor. Oversize book: overseas customers please request a shipping quote, or anticipate a request for additional postage; the book will ship at cost. Size: 12"x 12". N° de réf. du libraire 4760

A propos de ce titre

Synopsis :

Photographs that offer beauty in the commonplace, nostalgia in the mundane, and American universality in urban New Jersey.

The photographs of George Tice combine an appreciation of beauty with the grittiness of ordinary experience. Tice, the photographer/author of books like Hometowns: An American Pilgrimage, Fields of Peace, and the award-winning Paterson, has turned his camera many times to his native New Jersey. But these images of his home state, taken over the past thirty years, could be almost anywhere in America. They portray the movie theaters, shops, dwellings, and street scenes we have grown up with in cities large and small. Without the slightest effort to romanticize, Tice honors the commonplace with an extraordinary eye and a photographic excellence that is evocative to those of us who have experienced these settings. These pictures will stand the test of time as monuments to the American scene for future generations. 141 duotone photographs.

Description de la librairie

Lippincott Books, located in Hampden, has over 15,000 out of print and rare books in stock. We have a general antiquarian stock with strong holdings in Maine history and literature, lumbering and the North Woods of Maine, and Indians of the Eastern Woodlands. We also have detective and science fiction, vintage paperbacks and pulp magazines. We've been in business since 1975. We are close to the city of Bangor, the home of Stephen King; we do come across signed and limited editions as well as King's early work in locally published literary journals. We buy estate libraries; new acquisitions added constantly. We offer the opportunity to buy fresh finds from the private libraries, barns and attics of New England. Much of our stock is not listed on the Internet; we are open by appointment if you would like to view our stock. If you have a particular interest, we may be able to dig out something unusual from works in progress.
