Description :

An embossed leather album, produced by Roberts Brothers of Boston, probably in the 1870's. With a discreet patch to the spine, and lacking the clasp. Partially filled, with about 30 cdvs, and several tintypes; mostly from New England, with a number from the Boston area, and from Maine. There is at least one with a San Francisco backmark, and one from St. Louis. One image is of J. W. Pattison, photographed by Claflin in Worcester, Mass. We surmise it may be of James William Pattison, an artist and figure painter of the day. Pattison, who studied under George Inness, was the son of the principal of Oread Institute, a women's college in Worcester. N° de réf. du libraire

Description du livre A lovely album, in embossed leather, with a very pretty and delicate clasp. Nearly full, with 35 cdvs, all of natural scenes in New England and especially New Hampshire. There's a splendid image of "Cascade on Crystal Stream, Mt. Washington" with a figure seated with his rucksack (reminiscence of the famous image of Bierstadt painting at Crystal Stream). Many photographs (e.g. "Eastman's Fall" bear the backmark of John P. Soule, of Boston, well known for his portraits of Bostonians and of views of the New Hampshire mountains, a number of which are in this album. There are several views of houses, including "Wiley House" and "Washington House" in Pittsfield, New Hampshire. A remarkable gathering of New Hampshire cdvs, almost certainly from the 1870's, as John Soule left Boston in 1872. With the name of George M. Seavey; we locate a person with that name born in East Deerfield, Rockingham, New Hampshire, in 1842. N° de réf. du libraire 274072
