Limited to 450 copies, of which this is #274 Signed by Clare Leighton; this copy with an additional signature on the front endpaper. A discreet gift inscription is also on the endpaper. The book was given by "M. R. S." and Ms. Musselman's ex libris, which was designed by Clare Leighton, is on the pastedown. With 40 mounted woodcuts by the artist, each with printed tissue guard; and one additional mounted cut of a small mouse on the leaf following the numbered cuts. Limited to 450 copies, this No. 65; signed by the artist. pp(2)XVIII followed by 40 woodcuts of various sizes tipped-in on rectos of 36 leaves with titled tissue overlays; two final leaves, the first with small untitled woodcut of mouse tipped-in on recto, the other blank; six additional woodcuts printed on preliminary pages, on title-page, and in text. Hardback / hard cover: original brown cloth, backstrip lettered in gilt, front with woodcut inlay. Boards unevenly lightly faded and a little mottled, lower outer corners lightly bumped; inlay a little dust-marked, with two small spot-stains, with short closed tear and accompanyling crease (both less than ¼" long) at right hand edge, and beginning to lift at upper right-hand corner. No dust jacket. Edges of text-block age-toned, top edge also dust-marked. Pastedown sides of flyleaves at both front & rear unevenly tanned; front pastedown with slight lift towards fore-edge.
