Description :

Original paperback binding, thin card covers with two-tone colourful turquoise and pale green/yellow blocked image of muse of wine clutching goblet and staff, with grapes and vines either side. Braided border design in yellow. The whole bound with all adverts and rear cover, in a modern simple green cloth plain binding, and very scarce in this original paperback form with the covers preserved. The entire lower half of the text in the rear half of the book has been subject to severe wetness and some type of bleaching agent which has whitened the paper at the edges and left it somewhat bobbly in texture. There is no sticking together of pages or loss of detail in the text, the paper is about the same tone in the stained area as in the unaffected area. The paper has also retained suppleness. The worst affected is the rear cover, which has chafed and discoloured in the bottom half. This rear cover has a very worn appearance, with no text unclear. The front half of the book is free of staining, and the cover although very age darkened and edgeworn retains its period charm. The current binding is sobre and servicable, with nothing to indicate the treasure within. It appears that with a little skill it might be sweated free from the contents, should these be desired in their original form. The paper is tanned, there are neat ink annotations here and there, not too many. This book has spent many years of service in a wine or kitchen environment, steeped in the very chemicals of the trade. Size: 12mo. N° de réf. du libraire L14277
