This book, sub-titled "The American Invasion of New Zealand 1942-44," provides a detailed account of the impact of the arrival in NZ of US troops in large numbers to train, establish bases, source supplies, build camps and hospitalsas part of the war effort against the Japanese. While many of those who left to fight in the Pacific did not return,s others did to the hospitals or for R and R. The US "invasion" engendered a host of new experiences for the people of a country that had previously been remote from Americal influences. This study is a reminder of the perilous days before the Japanese tide began to receed. It covers well the military, social and cultural conseqences of the US forces.
